MOKELUMNE HILL — November 2, 2026. Residents interested in family history and historic properties can consult the Mokelumne Hill History Society’s archive, associated with the branch library on Main Street.
What the archive preserves
The local society describes collections of historical photographs, shop ledgers, diaries, oral histories and records from early civic groups. The Calaveras Heritage Council says the archive includes more than 2,000 scanned and indexed photographs and files.
Research access is different from borrowing
The collection is maintained by local history volunteers, and special materials may require an appointment. The Heritage Council provides 209-286-1182 for archival inquiries, while ordinary library circulation uses a different number.
What a reader can investigate
The archive can support research into past businesses, local cemeteries and community organizations. Visitors should ask about reproduction permissions and credit requirements before republishing old photographs or personal records.
